The Oregon State men's golf team was led by Mateo Fuenmayor, who shot a 1-under 70 on Monday in the opening round of the Oregon State Invitational. The Beavers, as a team, shot an 8-over 292 in the first round to place in a tie for seventh.
The 15-team field played nearly two full rounds at the par-71, 7,384-yard Trysting Tree Golf Club, but darkness suspended play with multiple holes remaining for every entrant. The teams will finish the second round at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday before finishing the tournament with the third round right after.
Oregon State saw all 10 of its golfers compete, with Fuenmayor pacing the Beavers. He was narrowly trailed by Collin Hodgkinson, who, competing as an individual, finished his one round at par. Hodgkinson placed in a tie for 14th after 18 holes. Brandon Eyre and Alfred Raja, both individuals as well, were one shot behind with a 1-over 72. Each finished the first round tied for 20th.
Fuenmayor birdied four holes in the first round, including the 16th, 17th and 18th to end his round. He tied for the team lead with Carson Barry, who also picked up four. Hodgkinson had two – both on the front nine – while Eyre and Raja had three apiece.Jackson Lake and Rylan Johnson each tied for 29th at 2-over 73. Lake's score counted toward the Beavers' team tally while Johnson is playing as an individual.
Barry finished with a 3-over 74 to tie for 35th. Brody Marconi, meanwhile, finished tied for 45th with a 4-over 75. He tied with Nolan Thoroughgood, who was also competing as an individual.
Sean Kato entered the second round 84th with a 14-over 85.
Lake and Thoroughgood both recorded two birdies while Marconi finished the first 18 with one.
