We’re celebrating Social Work Month by featuring junior Tatum Pierson!

Q: What inspired you to major in social work?A: I knew I wanted to further my education within a helping profession, and I feel as though God gifted me with a strong sense of empathy and desire to love and advocate for my neighbor. With these factors in mind, I was confident that social work was the perfect opportunity for me!

Q: What has been your favorite experience in the program so far?A: My favorite experiences in the social work program so far have been building relationships with my professors and cohort members, my work-study position in the social work office, and gaining hands-on experience regarding trauma-informed care through internship opportunities.

Q: What’s your dream job? A: My dream job is to be a forensic interviewer, preferably for children who experience a wide variety of abuse, trauma, and/or mental health complications. Helping children by building rapport and further advocating for them, as well as consistently collaborating with others on how to best care for my client, is how I picture my future social work career.
