Introduction
The Siletz Tribal Head Start Program provides a developmentally appropriate and Native American culturally relevant preschool experience which promotes school readiness skills for children who are 3 and 4 years of age. The program provides comprehensive services to children to ensure they are up-to-date on all well child care and to promote their physical, social emotional and cognitive development. The Head Start Program offers families the support they need to connect with community resources to further their personal growth and to support them in their role as their child’s first and most important teacher.
Requirements
High School Diploma or GED and six months experience in a structured early childhood education setting (Pre-School, Head Start, Kindergarten, Day-Care Center), and must obtain Child Development Associate (CDA) credential within 2 years from hire date, –OR– an associate’s or bachelor’s degree (in any area) or be enrolled in a program leading to such a degree.
Must pass a criminal history background check which includes a sex offender registry check and obtain one of the following: State or tribal criminal history records, including fingerprints; or, Federal Bureau of Investigation criminal history records, including fingerprints; and Child abuse and neglect state registry check, if available, and all of these checks must also be performed for every state where the individual has resided within five years.
Knowledge in: Early childhood education settings. Basic preschool classroom dynamics. Child behavior. Basic sanitization and cleaning practices. Basic office equipment and usage (copier, computer, fax, Email, scanner, etc.). Experience in: Early childhood education settings (Pre-school; Head Start, Kindergarten; Day-Care center). Caring for preschool aged children. Basic office experience. Ability to: Work effectively with low-income families. Use a positive approach in directing child behavior. Be comfortable working with children and families from a variety of social, ethnic, economic and cultural backgrounds. Work with cooperatively with other program staff. Work cooperatively as a team member and respond appropriately to direction. Be reliable and punctual. Demonstrate skill at carrying out instructions and completing assigned tasks. Meet the physical demands of the classroom environment and to facilitate and support the physical activity of 20 young children inside, outside of the classroom, and as necessary, to intervene physically to protect the health and safety of the children. Must be able to demonstrate skill in working and relating with a group of preschool age children. Use positive methods of child guidance that includes redirection, consistency, prevention, tolerance, and sensitivity. Establish and maintain professional boundaries. Other: Obtain First Aid/CPR within first 30-days of hire. Obtain Food Handlers card within 15-days of hire. Screened for tuberculosis. Tolerant and sensitive when working with children and families. Must complete a physical and TB testing within first 30 days of employment to verify physically able to perform the duties of the position.
