Cory Crooks To Stay At Oregon State As Assistant Coach

Oregon State head coach Chris Pendleton announced Friday that 2021-22 letterwinner Cory Crooks will stay with the Beavers as one of the team's assistant coaches.

"We are really excited about bringing Cory on staff with us here at Oregon State," Pendleton said. "Since the moment he stepped on campus, he has made a huge impact and I can't wait to see him blossom as a coach."

Crooks spent one season with the Beavers, going 17-11, which included a trip to the NCAA Championships at 149 pounds. He went 2-2 in Detroit as the No. 27 seed, picking up a pair of wins over higher ranked wrestlers. He finished third at the Pac-12 Championships to advance, going 3-1 as the No. 4 seed at 149.

"I'm very excited for the future of Oregon State wrestling," Crooks said. "I want to thank Coach Pendleton, as well as Scott Barnes, for this opportunity. I'm grateful to be able to stay in Corvallis and I'm excited to continue to be a part of this program."

He transferred to Oregon State last season from Arizona State. He also advanced to the 2021 NCAA Championships after finishing third at Pac-12s that season. He was a part of two Pac-12 titles for the Sun Devils.

Crooks, from Anthem, Ariz., went 176-14 at Boulder Creek High School and was the 2016 state champion and 2015 state runner-up.
