SCOUTING THE WASHINGTON HUSKIES
• The Huskies hold a 22-11 overall record with a 3-6 conference record, heading into the weekend. Washington is hitting .293 as a team with 55 home runs and 53 doubles, averaging 6.61 runs per game.
• Baylee Klingler leads the team in hits (47), runs (32), RBIs (51) and home runs (17) with a team-best .448 batting average and a 1.057 slugging percentage. Sami Reynolds and Madison Huskey are tied for second on the team with 33 hits apiece while Huskey has 30 runs batted in and Reynolds has scored 29 times.
• In the circle, Gabbie Plain leads the Huskies after tossing 92 innings thus far with a 9-4 record and a 2.36 ERA to go along with 113 strikeouts. Four other Huskies have combined to pitch the remaining innings for Washington as Pat Moore is second on the team with five wins. Brooke Nelson is perfect this season, holding a 4-0 record in 24 2/3 innings.
THE SERIES: OREGON STATE VS. WASHINGTON
• Washington leads the all-time series with Oregon State 70-23 while the Beavers are 4-19 under head coach Laura Berg. The Huskies have won nine of the last ten matchups, including the series finale last season by a score of 2-1.
• Oregon State took one game of the four-game series in 2021 after the Beavers hit a walk-off bomb to win 3-1 against the No. 6-ranked team in the country.
BEAVERS AT A GLANCE
• After its first series win over Arizona since 2013, the Beavers moved up to as high as No. 19 in the rankings (D1softball) and are now 31-9 overall and 7-5 in the Pac-12.
• Oregon State currently holds sole possession of third place in the conference behind Arizona State (28-5/9-0) and UCLA (32-5/10-2) after taking two games against No. 20 Arizona. Prior to the series finale loss, the Beavers were riding a six-game winning streak and had outscored their opponents 31-3.
• Freshman Sarah Haendiges (10-3) and senior Mariah Mazon (12-3) earned wins in the circle last weekend. In the opener, Haendiges tossed six frames with seven strikeouts and allowed just three hits. Mazon earned the second-game victory after going the distance with one hit and 11 strikeouts, her fifth double-digit strikeout game of the season.
• Freshman Kiki Escobar hit her first career home run in the series finale on Sunday to lead the Beavers. The freshman currently leads the conference with 58 hits with a .392 batting average. She has started in all 40 games and is tied with freshman counterpart Eliana Gottlieb with a team-best eight doubles and 11 stolen bases.
• Junior Frankie Hammoude knocked her sixth double of the season on Saturday, plating the go-ahead runs in the fifth inning to help the Beavers clinch the series. Hammoude leads the team this season with 11 home runs and 31 RBIs with a .408 batting average and .806 slugging percentage.
• As a team, the Beavers hold a .298 batting average with 42 home runs from nine different Beavers. Oregon State averages 5.5 runs per game led by Gottlieb's 33 runs.
PAC-12 WEEKLY AWARD WINNERS
• Through eight weeks of play, the Beavers have collected six different conference weekly awards
• Junior Frankie Hammoude got things started in the first week, being named Player of the Week. She reached base in all five games in the weekend opener, producing 10 hits (10-for-16) with five home runs, 10 runs batted in, one walk and five runs scored.
• Newcomer Kiki Escobar garnered Freshman of the Week in the second week for her first conference nod of her early Beaver career. Escobar reached base in all five games, producing a team-high nine hits and went 9-for-19 (.474) with two doubles, six RBIs, one walk and three runs scored.
• On March 9, the conference announced that senior Mariah Mazon took home Oregon State's second Player of the Week honor of the season after her record-breaking performance at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.
• The freshmen standouts of Kiki Escobar and Sarah Haendiges recently grabbed their nods. Escobar's 10-for-16 performance last week garnered her second conference nod while Haendiges' pitcher of the week award was her first of her early career. In the circle, Haendiges struck out 16 batters in 17 innings after surrendering just nine hits and one walk over the course of four games to move her ERA to a 1.79.
• After her performance last week against Arizona, Escobar was honored for the third time this season as freshman of the week.
ON DECK:
• The Beavers return home next weekend for a Pac-12 series showdown with No. 3 UCLA. The three-game tilt is scheduled to begin on Friday, April 22 at 7 p.m. PT, continues on Saturday, April 23 at 3 p.m. PT and concludes on Sunday, April 24 at 12 p.m. PT.
• All three games will be available on the Pac-12 Networks.
