Soccer Signs Pair from Antelope Valley Ahead of 2023 Season

The Oregon State soccer program added defenders Cassi James and Paola Figueroa, as announced by head coach Lauren Sinacola on Tuesday morning. The pair join the Beavs after spending the past season at Antelope Valley.

The duo combined for 27 goals, 16 assists and 70 points between the two student-athletes last season.

James was named the Western State-South Conference Defensive Player of the Year for her efforts in guiding the Marauders to the second round of the CCCAA Regional. She scored back-to-back hat tricks in wins over Glendale and West L.A., while finishing the year with three hat tricks and a pair of braces for the Marauders.

“Cassi is a talented defender that is confident and crafty on the ball, which is exciting because she could potentially find herself in a few different positions on the field in the future,” Sinacola said of James. “Cassi will also add to the competitive, hard-working culture we are continuing to build within our program. We are looking forward to having her join us in the beginning of April.”

Figueroa started all 23 contests for Antelope Valley, with nine goals and seven assists on the season, en route to Western State-South Conference First Team honors. Her breakout game of the season came against Compton, where she added four goals on eight shots, while adding an assist in the 6-0 victory.

“We are very excited about adding Paola to our program,” added Sinacola. “She is a strong, athletic and technical defender, as well as a very determined, committed and competitive individual. I am confident she will quickly find ways to be impactful both on and off the field when she joins us in April.”

The Beavs return to the pitch on Apr. 8 for a spring contest against the Portland Pilots at Lorenz Field. Game time is set for 11 a.m. PT.
