Oregon State University reported on May 14 that freshman Bea Pettersson broke the school’s shot put record during the George Fox NCAA Final Qualifier in Newberg, Oregon. Pettersson’s throw of 15.81 meters (51-10.5) not only set a new program best but also secured her a spot in the 2026 NCAA West Preliminary Round.
This achievement is significant as it highlights Pettersson’s rapid progression in her first year and demonstrates the strength of Oregon State’s women’s track and field team heading into postseason competition. Her performance places her at No. 1 in school history for the event.
Earlier that day, Pettersson also won the hammer throw with a mark of 55.45 meters (181-11). Other notable results included strong showings from multi-event athletes Peyton Craven and Mia Kemp, who competed unattached and finished first and third respectively in the heptathlon. Craven achieved personal bests in both the 100-meter hurdles (14.47 seconds) and high jump (1.67 meters/5-5.75), while Kemp recorded a personal best long jump of 5.02 meters (16-5.75).
In field events, Lexi Hunt and Kyra Bakke tied for top positions in high jump by clearing 1.63 meters (5-4.25). Maddy Juhler placed third in pole vault with a height of 3.53 meters (11-7). In javelin, Kaylen Rabalais finished second with a throw of 41.55 meters (136-4), followed by Havana Alonso in third place at 37.59 meters (123-4).
On the track, Maella Hodgson ran a personal-best time of 2:11.35 to finish second in the 800 meters, while Ruby Lorenz took fourth place with a time of 2:15.07.
Oregon State Athletics continues to emphasize building excellent student-athletes as they prepare for upcoming competitions.
